February 27, 2009, 4:02 PM — Andrew Cheatle was out shopping for a new cell phone when a man with a heck of a fish story rang his girlfriend. You see, fisherman Glen Kerley discovered the phone in the belly of a 25-pound cod he was gutting and rather than do what any sane person would do and dispose of it, Kerley decided to find the phone's owner.
"I thought he was winding me up," said Cheatle "but he assured me he had caught a cod that morning and was gutting it for his fish stall and that my Nokia was inside it — a bit worse for wear."
And what of the poor fish? As if being caught and killed weren't bad enough, the poor thing had probably been ringing for days. "I kept calling it," Cheatle said, "but I gave up hope after a couple of days." Read more...
