Google Analytics says that one person in the last 30 days has accessed ITworld.com with the all-textual Lynx browser; unless that's you, you're almost certainly reading these words on a windowed desktop, using a mouse to interact with items on screen. But within living memory, that would have been a science-fiction-like dream for most people, and the first steps towards a graphical user interface were somewhat halting. With new editions of the two most prominent windowed OSes coming this fall, join us for a look at the early stages of the GUI.
