Apple Lisa

When you think of Apple's pioneering UI work, you're almost certainly thinking of the 1984 introduction of the Macintosh. Almost forgotten today is the Lisa, an Apple project that competed internally with the Mac and came out a year earlier at a much higher cost. Eventually absorbed into the more successful Mac product line, the Lisa initially had its own OS, which pioneered the use of drop-down windows, one of the defining features of a graphical user interface.
