Facebook pwns TechCrunch

Well at least we know the folks at Facebook have a sense of humor.

Well at least we know the folks at Facebook have a sense of humor.

Yesterday, TechCrunch had a post about a new feature on Facebook: the ability to send any Facebook photo via fax for $1.50. They reported that the new service, Fax This Photo, was powered by efax.com, and they had some questions about the target audience for such a service.

Later they followed this post up with another post: Yeah Ok, So Facebook Punk’d Us. When TechCrunch first contacted Facebook about Fax This Photo the response they got was: "We already faxed you a statement on this??? Didn’t you get it?" And things went downhill from there. I don't want to spoil all the fun, but the bottom line? The feature (which apparently worked) was set up to appear only on the Facebook accounts of TechCrunch staffers and was set up as a joke.

What adds to the fun is reading the comments on the original article. Some folks nailed it as a hoax, others figured it was something that efax paid Facebook to do, and some found a genuine use for the service.

TechCrunch is being a good sport about the prank (at least publicly) and the best part for us on the sidelines? Waiting for the inevitable payback!
