October 28, 2009, 8:19 AM — If you live in the Big Apple, you know that there's a certain social cache that comes with having a doorman for your building -- but of course, paying someone to stand by the door 24 hours a day isn't cheap. Now a new system is gaining popularity, whereby many services that a doorman would normally offer are being provided by a person in a "command center" miles away, who's serving as a doorman for several buildings at once.
