"Unfriend" is the word of the year

A verb describing a particularly modern snub -- the removal of a person from your friends list on a social networking site -- has been chosen by the New Oxford American Dictionary's staff as 2009's word of the year. "Unfriend" came out on top, but its competition was tech-heavy, and included "netbook" and "sexting."
