Bossie 2010 winner: Puppet
Puppet is a configuration management framework designed to automate almost any repeatable task in the data center. Puppet can create fresh installs and monitor existing nodes; push out system images, as well as update and reconfigure them; and restart your services -- all unattended. Unlike close contender Chef, which uses procedural ordering to take a system from point A to point B, Puppet employs a graphing model that defines configuration dependencies and can take any system from its current state to the way you need it to look. This year Puppet added a new event model for better reporting, an updated REST interface, and nascent support for Windows systems -- something that Puppet Labs needs to build on.
