The Perfect Desktop - Kubuntu 9.10

By Falko Timme, HowtoForge |  Open Source, Adobe, desktop 1 comment

This tutorial shows how you can set up a Kubuntu 9.10 desktop that is a full-fledged replacement for a Windows desktop, i.e. that has all the software that people need to do the things they do on their Windows desktops. The advantages are clear: you get a secure system without DRM restrictions that works even on old hardware, and the best thing is: all software comes free of charge. Kubuntu 9.10 is derived from Ubuntu 9.10 and uses the KDE desktop instead of the GNOME desktop.

I still think KDE and GNOME both are heavier for 'some old hardware' for instance you cannot run it if you have around 384mb ram or 512mb ram, it would still run but would feel sluggish. Anyways for a perfect KDE Desktop, I would prefer going for Linux Mint 9 KDE edition which is based on Kubuntu 10.04 LTS I guess but it is more polished and comes with many apps already installed because it comes in the DVD image only and am so far pretty pleased using it as I rarely had to install any other apps other than Google Chrome and Thunderbird.las vegas short sale expert
