May 09, 2011, 4:13 AM — Shipping group Stena is moving to Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 in a bid to support easier web content management.
The group includes ferry routes, shipping, offshore drilling, property, finance and other areas.
Stena signed a deal with SharePoint consultancy ClearPeople to improve content management for four public facing Stena websites.
The company said the move would enable its marketing teams to update the websites directly, and "create a consistent and more engaging end-user experience" without assistance from the IT department.
Pr Persson, business technology manager at Stena, said: "Our legacy platform was holding us back. With SharePoint 2010 we now have a flexible, user friendly solution that enables us to deploy new websites quickly."
Persson said Stena has been able to use SharePoint to become a "more efficient and communicative organisation", and it has helped the group to engage with customers through personalisation.
One example is Stena's property business, where the firm is developing a new personalised experience for over 24,000 tenants, to give them "information that will be relevant to them and their relationship with Stena", said Persson.
ClearPeople worked with Stena's IT team to migrate the websites to SharePoint 2010, while adding new multilingual capabilities to the sites. It also developed custom features, provided project management and worked on code with Stena's own developers.
The result is that each Stena business unit can manage its own content, making the websites more relevant and useful for their respective audiences. The SharePoint content management system also provides the capability to add social media features.
Stena plans to migrate other websites to the new platform in the coming year.
