The Nokia 1020 has a 41 megapixel sensor (!), which is more than many “professional” DSLR cameras. Have personal smartphone cameras reached the point where they can actually take professional level photographs?

According to a blog post by a Chrome security engineer, Google plans to eliminate most NPAPI plugins for Chrome by January 2014. That’s obviously pretty soon.

PapaRiver asks Which would be easier to transition to from Microsoft Office; OpenOffice or LibreOffice? I’ve been considering switching from MS Office to either LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Are there any major advantage to one of those over the other for someone transitioning from Office?4 weeks 3 days ago

Migration Assistant usually works fine, but if you have problems with it, you can also try a Time Machine backup, then physically connect the old HDD to the new machine and use Migration Assistant with the backup.

Apparently, Google’s main complaints are that the Windows Phone YouTube app isn’t serving up the proper ads when viewing content and Microsoft not utilizing HTML5. Microsoft calls these “invented reasons.” Not sure who is in the right in this case. Is there any reason why Windows Phone users can’t just view YouTube through their browser?

The President of Lavabit, the email provider used by NSA leaker Edward Snowden, suddenly shut down it’s services and issued a statement that said: “without congressional action or a strong judicial precedent, I would _strongly_ recommend against anyone trusting their private data to a company with physical ties to the United States.” Is he right

Possible but unlikely, at least through crowdfunding. They were crowing about Bloomberg coming on board as a corporate sponsor/partner, but Bloomberg’s total commitment was $80,000. That’s a lot of money to me, but not if I was trying to come up with $32 million. BTW, as of today they have raised $9.2 million.

There is a new Spike Jonez film called Her that is essentially about a man falling in love with a more advanced version of Siri. This led me to think about it on my train ride this morning, which has become like my private Milesian School.

I was thinking about the moral implications of AdBlock. Ok, ok, maybe that’s a little odd, but it was a long train ride this morning, and you have to think of something. On one hand, AdBlock stops the sometimes annoying ads on websites.

have an old router at home that still works well and actually has a better range than some other routers I’ve tried. However, is doesn’t support WPA, so the best I can do for security is WEP. Is this good enough for home use?

PapaRiver asks What’s the best way to extend battery life on a smartphone without making it useless? One thing that doesn’t seem to be improving at the same pace as everything else on smartphones is battery life. I’m an android user, and sometimes I struggle to make it through the day. I know that you can turn off various features such as GPS, WiFi, etc.12 weeks 5 days ago

I am seriously loving everything I’ve seen about the new Mac Pro so far, and not just the super cool cylinder exterior. What’s not to love about a Mac where the “base” model has a 3.2Ghz quad core Intel Xenon E5, 2 killer AMD Firepro GPUs, next-gen PCI Express flash storage, etc., etc. What I haven’t seen is how much it will cost.

As I understand it, Chromebooks essentially work “in the cloud,” That’s fine most of the time, but occasionally I do need to do work, mainly word processing, when I do not have an internet connection. Am I out of luck when I’m out of WiFi range, or can I still use a Chromebook without a connection?

Will enterprise embrace Google Glass when it sees a general release? It’s the kind of thing that I could see a few people I know wanting their companies to support, but I can’t think of many (if any) needs it fills for businesses. Is there even any effort to penetrate the business market with Glass?

I'm looking for a good quality printer that will primarily be used by my wife to print photographs. She has taken a number of classes and is pretty serious about it, so I would like to get her something pretty nice, but I don't really know what to look for.

I recently read a statistic that nearly 50% of business still use Windows XP. Obviously, “upgrading” is a significant expense that many companies have avoided to this point. However, all support for XP ends in April 2014, so they will be forced into it.
