  • Some people are willing to pay for increased privacy, but if you are reading ITworld, you are probably a higher information consumer than the average Facebook user and more aware of the issue than the general public. Honestly, the vast majority of people don’t care enough to pay for their social media.

  • I understand that it stands for Platform as a Service, but what does that really mean? How does it differ from other cloud offerings?

  • One of the best things about 4.4 is that Google made a real effort to make Android run much better on lower powered devices. I don’t think that this has received the attention is deserves.

  • A friend of mine got a new Windows 8 laptop, which he then wanted to update to Windows 8.1. After the update, he only gets a black screen on boot. He can see and move the mouse pointer, but do nothing else. Any ideas on how to get his laptop functioning again?

  • Make sure you have the most recent system update, then plug the PS4 controller into the USB port.

  • Just to add to what JimLynch said, a custom recovery is a must for rooted android devices. It should allow you to do a nandroid backup to create a "save point" for your device. This is especially important if you flash a lot of ROMS.

  • I would store them in anti-static bags. Or, if you are really cheap and don’t want to pony up for an anti-static bag you can wrap it in plain old aluminium foil. I also think it’s a good idea to bubble wrap them. Let’s face it things often get knocked around when they are in storage, and a HDD doesn’t need that.

  • What are the drawbacks and advantages of cloud based network monitoring versus in-house network monitoring?

  • I am familiar with and use the Tor browser when on my Windows laptop to try to maintain some semblance of online privacy. Is Tor sufficient to ensure privacy, or are there other steps that I should take?

  • When setting up a data center, what do the different RAID levels actually indicate? How does one choose the appropriate RAID level for a small business, for example?

  • Is there a way I can use the display on my laptop for a second screen with my Windows 7 desktop?

  • I suppose that there is an argument for delivered/bounce rate, since it really doesn't matter how large your mailing list is if people aren't getting them. I personally would say the open rate is more important, because even if they are reaching inboxes, those emails aren't going to do you much good if they are going straight to trash unread.

  • When a business is choosing a hosting solution, what are the most important factors to consider when deciding between colocation or dedicated servers? Does one have a significant advantage over the other?

  • I’ve never had to face this issue, thank goodness, but what steps should a company take to make sure they are prepared for the possibility that their cloud provider could go out of business?

  • Yahoo announced today that it will no longer honor “do not track” requests by users and will ignore the browser setting. I am pretty annoyed by this. I don’t spend a lot of time on any of Yahoo’s sites, but now I’m going to spend less. I consider this a blatant disregard for even a modicum of personal privacy.

  • A buddy of mine just got a new Galaxy S5, and was pretty happy about it. However, over the weekend he got an error message that says, “Warning, camera failure.” We power cycled it a few times and forced closed the app, but nothing seems to correct the issue. Anyone know how to resolve this problem?

  • I got a flyer from my company’s insurance broker advertising "cyber insurance" today. I didn’t realize this was a product that existed.

  • One of my friends has her small business’s wireless network secured with WEP encryption. I’ve suggested that she should change to WPA/WPA2 and advised her that WEP was obsolete, but I can’t seem to get her to pay any attention. Exactly how insecure is WEP and how can I prove it to her?

  • I don’t have to know how to code for my job, but I still feel like I should have a better understanding of coding. Plus, I just like learning new things. I’d like to do it in my spare time, and don’t have time (or inclination) to take a course at the local community college.

  • DHCP is what I would suggest. It’s a pain to assign static IP addresses, and not even very effective from a security standpoint. However, DHCP doesn’t always work well with everything. I’m specifically thinking of networked printers, although a few will work with DHCP...it’s very hit or miss, mostly miss in my experience.

  • Yes, you can install Ukrainian on RT through the control panel.  Go to SETTINGS>CHANGE PC SETTINGS Tap TIME AND LANGUAGE>REGION AND LANGUAGE>ADD A LANGUAGE.

  • Generally yes. Some software might not, though, and a lot of anti-virus software is known not to work on both versions of Windows 7.

  • Does anyone have a good guide on how to recover the network key on a Linksys Wireless G Router?

  • Ina Fried at CNET was the first person I know of that wrote about Windows 7’s “God Mode,” which let’s you access all of the customization settings in a single window. You just need to create a new folder and name it:  "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}"
