August 30, 2012, 10:37 AM — Following up on my post from earlier this week, it seems a new 7" Kindle Fire is all but official. Amazon today announced that the existing Kindle Fire is completely sold out.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos:
“We’re grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon. This has been a big year for digital products on Amazon—all of the top 10 sellers on Amazon.com since Kindle Fire launched just less than a year ago are digital products. Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead—we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem.”
It seems very unlikely that Amazon will abandon the 7" tablet space, so this announcement seems to confirm a new 7" Kindle Fire 2 will be announced next week. Whether it'll be joined by an additional larger tablet remains to be seen.
Update: Someone sent The Verge an image that they claim is the new Kindle Fire 2. But the plot thickened when another tipster claimed to have used the new Kindle Fire and that the image that The Verge was sent isn't it. Guess we'll know for sure next week!
