    Posted September 22, 2012 - 7:40 am

Sony is releasing a slimmer, smaller, and lighter PlayStation 3 console in time for the holidays featuring either 250GB or 500GB of hard disk drive storage, a boost from the current 160GB and 320GB models. The new PS3 console will be available in black during the console's late September launch, but a white version is coming to Japan in November.
  • Angry Birds smashing into consoles for the holidays

    Posted July 21, 2012 - 7:03 am

Rovio's Angry Birds is heading to video game consoles in time for the 2012 holiday season, two years after the company first started discussing the possibility in public, according to an online report. Activision said in June during E3 that it was partnering with Rovio to bring the pig-smashing mobile sensation to consoles, but the news was a tease and short on details. Now, it looks like Angry Birds will be released as a trilogy featuring the original game, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, as well as the Nintendo 3DS, according to [<a
  • Jonathan Mak’s Sound Shapes adds original music from Beck

    Posted July 18, 2012 - 1:44 pm

We’ve been excited for Sound Shapes ever since we heard that Jonathan Mak –of Everyday Shooter fame– would be making a musical platformer for the PlayStation 3 and Vita at E3 last year. He sold us with his description of the game: “You can use it to make music, but then you can “play” that music like it’s a video game.” The game is so distinctly his style, it wouldn’t be coming from anyone but Mak.
  • 5 games you may have missed at E3 2012

    Posted June 9, 2012 - 7:01 am

E3 is almost over, and after running back and forth across the L.A. Convention Center for two days we've stumbled across a few games that don't get the attention they deserve. These hidden gems are great games that we weren't expecting to see at E3 2012, and now that we've seen them in action it's hard to get excited about the next Call of Duty knockoff or God of War slaughterfest.

  • What's next in Sony PlayStation 3 hack case

    Posted March 7, 2011 - 12:53 pm

Sony wants the lowdown on those of you who visited PlayStation 3 hacker George Hotz's website, and it looks like a San Francisco judge has granted the company subpoena power to get it.
  • Police raid PS3 hacker's home, hacker retaliates

    Posted February 25, 2011 - 5:30 pm

Sony is pretty annoyed with those hooligans hacking its beloved PlayStation 3. So annoyed, in fact, that they've involved law enforcement: On February 23, PS3 and Linux hacker graf_chokolo said the local police and a Sony representative raided his house.
  • Hack your PS3, Forfeit PlayStation Network access

    Posted February 16, 2011 - 9:01 pm

Circumvent Sony's PlayStation 3 security algorithms or run unauthorized software on your PS3 and Sony says it'll sever your access to its PlayStation Network for good. That's Sony's not-really-surprising official position on unsanctioned PS3-fiddling, just announced courtesy its PlayStation Blog.
  • Is that a rootkit on your PlayStation 3?

    Posted February 2, 2011 - 2:45 pm

Oh dear, did Sony quietly slip a rootkit onto the PS3 with the recent 3.56 system update? Did the company apply a suite of software tools designed to conceal (their) surreptitious file manipulation? To hide realtime processes executed without your knowledge or consent? Is your PS3 compromised?
  • Sony attempt to 'restrain' PlayStation 3 hackers doomed?

    Posted January 12, 2011 - 2:45 pm

Sony's clearly readying the hounds to foil recent hacks that lay bare the PlayStation 3's once impregnable security routines. But in light of recent rulings about 'jailbreaking', do they have a legal leg to stand on?

It's probably just a 24 hour bug, but you'll want to leave your glitchy PS3s off in the meantime, just in case, says Sony.

  • Global PlayStation 3 Glitch: What We Know So Far

    Posted March 1, 2010 - 3:07 pm

Sony's PlayStation 3 appears to be in the throes of an inadvertent global gaming lockdown, suffering from an unidentified glitch that prevents gamers from playing specific games whether online or offline. The issue appears to be related to the monthly turnover (February to March, last night) and occurs whether you're connected to the Internet or not. The company isn't responding to press emails at this time or detailing what the problem is, only that it's working on an "issue" and attempting "to restore service to all."
  • Gaming Consoles Gear up for the Holidays

The Holidays are just around the corner, and gaming console makers hope to make 2009 a record-setting year. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii have all dropped their prices in recent weeks. There are also new motion-control innovations in the pipeline from Sony and Microsoft, and Nintendo hopes its Wii will hang on with the revival of its most popular video game hero.

Not one week into its UK sales debut, Sony's re-imagined, slim-sized PlayStation 3 is already enjoying massive sales, up nearly 1000 percent over the prior week. The UK and Denmark market-researcher Chart-Track, which reported that figure, told biz watcher MCV "the sales increase is very impressive," adding that the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 as well as both the Wii and DS Lite by a striking three-to-one ratio.
