Gnarly tech you can take swimming with the fishes
Here is a gallery of awesome tech for the pool, the beach, and 20,000 leagues under the sea.
Larger versions of jet-type underwater vehicles have helped divers reach exhausting depths. But what if you just want to scoot around the perimeter of your beach resort? BladeFish has developed Seajet, a compact version of those jets you see in the Cousteau movies. It's about the size of an office fan and pulls you through the water at about 5 mph on a half hour charge.
Avatar, eat your heart out
Liquid Pictures has developed a very high tech underwater 3D camera for filming HD movies under the sea. Granted, this isn't something you would pick up at the photo stand in Cabo, but you can see the results in a new 3D movie: Wild Ocean 3D
But I really want to take my iPhone for a swim...
Sigh. Okay, there IS a product that will help you achieve your goal. Magellan's ToughCase will keep your iPhone waterproof up to 30 meters. ToughCase also houses an external battery that keeps your iPhone running twice as long as normal. And, yes, you can use your iPhone in the case. Happy now?
But I really want to listen to tunes while swimming...
Is there no end to your demands?! FINE. Introducing Mi-Sport's VBT waterproof headphones. Using Bluetooth technology, there are no wires to get caught up in your backstroke. If you don't feel like buying a ToughCase for your iPhone, then you can use the onboard mp3 player, which can hold 4GB of music.
Great! Now I want to make a call...
Use your iPhone! Oh yeah, you're wearing a mask and are 40 meters down. iPhone barely gets bars in a tunnel. So what to do? You can use Ocean Reef's ALPHA UWCP (Under Water Cell Phone). With a 40 meter cord that attaches to a module that attaches to one of Ocean Reef's masks and the other end bobbing on a buoy on the surface. As long as your cell phone has "voice dialing", you're good to go.
