NYT: Former Obama spokesman courted by Facebook
Rumor that Robert Gibbs may join social networking star riles up the right
Facebook is considering hiring former Obama White House spokesman Robert Gibbs as part of the social networking company's communications team, according to the New York Times.
Dealbook reports that "Facebook is seeking out Mr. Gibbs ahead of an initial public offering planned for early 2012," citing "people briefed in the negotiations":
The talks are still at an early stage and no formal offer has been made, these people said, adding it remained possible that the discussions could collapse.
It'd be a big payday for Gibbs, who stepped down from his job in the administration last month. He'd be getting a good salary and plenty of shares as Facebook prepares for what many expect to be a blockbuster IPO sometime next year.
Not surprisingly, the news is being greeted with great enthusiasm on the right:
GIBBY WOULD FIT RIGHT IN WITH THE PINKO GEEK "STARS ON FACEBOOK"
Little Libs don't have real friends - they have to make PRETEND FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK while the rest of us are BUSY WORKING.
That's from a commenter on Politico. Here's another:
Here go again, more of the chicago tricks....he will control what is going on on facebook, axelrod's son controls what goes on at huffington post....the dictator is zeroing in ...just like chavez
Just like Chavez. Who, it's my understanding, is creating a prison system for Venezuelans who refuse to "like" his Facebook page. How long before Obama has his Facebook gulags?
And it's true about Obama adviser David Axelrod's son. A source of mine at The Huffington Post says the younger Axelrod has final say on all Charlie Sheen coverage and celebrity nip-slip slide shows. Seriously, he controls all of it.
I weep for our country.
This is why we need great patriots like Glenn Beck to expose the conspiracies and lies, much as he blew the lid off the cozy relationship between Google and Obama when he said:
"It seems to me that Google is pretty deeply in bed with the government. Remember, maybe this is explaining why Google is being kicked out of all the other countries."
Talk about "I have no more questions, Your Honor."
Fortunately we can expect Glenn Beck to expose the Facebook conspiracy with the same level of detail and specificity. In fact, those two Politico comments should give him a great head start.
