June 30, 2003 —

Dell Computer Corp. revealed the pricing for its PowerEdge 3250 server, based on Intel Corp.'s new Itanium 2 processor, and also will make Intel's new Xeon chips available on four-way PowerEdge servers, it said Monday.

The Round Rock, Texas, company will charge US$5,999 for an immediately available base configuration of its PowerEdge 3250, with a 1.3GHz Itanium 2 processor with 3M bytes of cache, it said. The two-way server is also available in a cluster of eight nodes for $88,600.

Intel launched the new Itanium processors on Monday along with new Xeon MP processors.

Dell will incorporate Intel's newest Xeon MP processors into its PowerEdge 6650 and 6600 four-way servers, it said. The new Xeon MP chips have clock speeds of 2.8GHz, 2.5GHz, and 2.0GHz.

Hewlett-Packard Co.'s ProLiant line of servers will be available with the new Intel Xeon MP chips in mid-July, it said Monday. IBM Corp. had previously announced it would release new servers with the new Intel Xeon MP processors.
