JPL video highlights the journey of the Mariner 2 spacecraft
On Dec. 14, 1962, the Mariner 2 spacecraft flew by Venus, giving the United States its first "First" in the space race with the Soviet Union. America was the first country to complete a successful mission to another planet.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has published a video commemorating the journey of the mission, with interviews of people who were involved with the mission. Find out how a software bug caused the destruction of the first Mariner spacecraft, and hear from one of the few women involved in being a flight controller for the mission. Very cool video for anyone interested in space:
