The Super Bowl is the time for football, and commercials – increasingly geeky ones.
It’s that time of the year again- welcome to Super Bowl XLVII!
Whether you have a rooting interest in America’s biggest game or not, the talk of the big game seems to be as much about the football as the ads each year. And through the years, there have been some very techie Super Bowl ads. From the iconic, to the cutting edge, here are our picks of 12 of the geekiest! (We’ll learn soon whether we’ll need to update this list based on the 2013 crop, such as RIM’s promised BlackBerry 10 ads and this from GoDaddy.

Apple “1984”
Any list of techie Super Bowl ads has to have this iconic Apple “big brother” ad from Super Bowl XVII in 1984. Considered one of the most memorable Super Bowl ads of all time, Apple announced the release date for the Apple Macintosh, and the rest has been computer history. (Apple even created a spoof of the commercial for its sales team that featured Steve Jobs playing FDR.)
IBM Linux prodigy
Another throwback, this one from 2003. IBM and Linux – can a Super Bowl ad get more techie!?
Best Buy Hail to tech innovators
Hail to the techies! Best Buy wants to be known as the spot to go for tech gear, and it enlisted some notable tech innovators to make the pitch.
VW “The Force”
There’s a little Star Wars in every true techie, and this Volkswagen spot brings us back to our younger years.

Bud Light has brought us many Super Bowl commercials, but this is perhaps its techiest.
