With Suns announcement last month of its new midrange Sun Fire servers, the company also rolled out new consulting services.
The Sun Fire servers consist of the 3800, 4800, 4810 and 6800 Models. They are based on Suns UltraSPARC architecture, which will appeal to data center users and companies running back-end data warehouses.
Sun offers two approaches for implementing servers into a customer's IT environment: the Sun Fire Application Readiness Service and the Sun Fire Data Center Readiness Service.
The Application Readiness program provides minimum implementation, project management, and design help for configuring Sun Fire Servers. It does not include loading applications; it does include testing and system software to ensure that the server configuration conforms to the documented design.
The Data Center Readiness service adds to the Application Readiness service by providing an operational environment for mission-critical applications. Data Center Readiness includes additional design and testing and also best-practice guidelines and setup. The testing is customized to the customer's environment and covers servers and storage devices.
In addition, Sun is offering the Sun RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) Profile Service for its Sun Fire servers. These services include Web-based tools that allow remote management of Sun Fire servers through Sun's Online Service Center and Sun Remote Services Net Connect.
