IDC last month issued a report that listed IBM as the No. 1 server vendor worldwide for 2000, outpacing Sun by 32%.
The study, based on server revenue, showed that IBM led with $13.6 billion to Sun's $10.3 billion. IBM shipped 608,118 servers to Sun's 343,803 shipments.
IBM also passed Hewlett-Packard for the first time in shipments of Unix-based servers.
Big Blue has a 23% revenue market share worldwide for servers and is the No. 1 vendor in the midrange server market worldwide, characterized by servers in the $100,000 to $1 million price range. IBM also captured the high-end $1 million-plus server market with a 36% market share.
