You might not always want to deliver Web applications using a full-fledged Web server. Sometimes you need to cut down on management overhead or run on a server platform that is significantly underpowered.
If the platform is running Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT or Windows 2000, then you might consider using WEBSvr/ASP from OctoGroup (http://www.octopod.net/).
WEBSvr/ASP is an HTTP/1.1 Web server built as an ActiveX DLL that requires only 300K bytes of memory. The component has an impressive feature set that includes the ability to run Active Server Pages (currently for the VBScript, JScript and PERL languages) and is multithreaded and thread-safe.
Other features include: an object model compatible with Microsofts Internet Information Server; file upload from Web browsers with multipart and form-data support; an integrated text-parsing engine; easy setup; safe logging of requests, responses, application service provider (ASP) scripts and other events; and a programming interface for C/C++ programmers.
A single developer license for WEBSvr/ASP -- royalty-free for end-user installations -- is very reasonably priced at $179 with ASP support and at $99 without ASP support.
