F-Secure takes aim at mobile viruses
F-SECURE, WHICH SPECIALIZES in security and encryption technology, is announcing a virus protection product for mobile devices running on Symbian's EPOC platform.
F-Secure, based in Espoo, Finland, said in a statement that its new product is aimed at the security risks posed by the new generation of mobile phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) that "bring the Internet to your pocket."
The Symbian platform is already licensed to many of the major manufacturers of wireless devices, F-Secure said. The company added that its Mobile Scanner technology will allow it to scan for any future binary viruses, script language viruses, Trojan horses, and infected e-mail attachments that should emerge, and pass on security updates to wireless devices over the airwaves.
