ERP vendors cut support fees
Both Oracle and SAP have trimmed their support fees--a good thing for customers, who often cringe at the support and maintenance costs of enterprise ERP installations.
Oracle, most decidedly a company that doesn't like discounts, typically charges a whopping 22 percent of license cost for support. Versions that are five years old or older get "extended support," which costs an additional 10 percent. They will deliver some short-term discounts however, to customers using older versions of the system. Those customers with the older software can get the extended support for one year, without having to endure the extra 10 percent.
SAP has a similar support fee structure, and has also made some concessions by reducing the rate at which support fees will increase over time.
Looks like the beginning of a larger trend.
