rousseau answers Re: What's a good, less expensive alternative to a Jawbone Jambox speaker to use with an iPhone? 30 weeks 19 hours ago

I think it would depend on the depth of experience on your resume. I mean, if you have experience as a CIO and a ton of articles published in journals, then it wouldn't be necessary.

I am speaking from personal experience when I say that social media can work against you unless you have someone in charge who (1) is familiar with corporate objectives, (2) has effective communication/marketing skills, (3) understands what their goals are, just as Christopher said earlier, and (4) has the ability to interact with individuals at

While there is a rather significant security issue (which I guess is pretty much analogous to privacy) at the moment, outside of the current zero-day exploit, IE has actually gotten much better over the years. In fact, the biggest reoccurring security issue that I see related to IE is when people don't update it.

I think that it is a little to early to proclaim the end of IT outsourcing, but I think that GM's move probably does indicate the start of a trend reversing the outsourcing trend. For one, having IT back in-house gives the company greater control, which is pretty much always a positive.

Oops, I see that CNET updated the article saying that Amazon "had reversed course", so the other posters were correct about the $15 opt-out. Still not super happy about that, but it is only $15.

Apparently the reports of a being able to pay $15 to get the ads removed were incorrect. CNET just posted an article after confirming with Amazon that ALL Kindle Fire HDs will have non-removable ad placement. You can keep your Kindle Fire HD, Amazon, because that's something I won't accept.

You should be able to use it, but with T-MO you will probably only get "EDGE" speeds. "EDGE" is another way of saying slow as molasses 2G, but at least it sounds fast.

I didn't make it last time, but I think I will go to the 2012 one. I think SDN has a great amount of potential to change how we operate and run networks over the next few years, and I want to be up to speed.

The jury is out, and soon we will get to see how this long saga turns out. I have my guess on how it will turn out, but it is such a complex area of law and there are so many issues to be decided that it is fair to say that your guess is a good as mine. What would you decide if you were sitting on the jury?

I agree with you 100% about Zynga. I'm sure they would disagree, but when I look at that company I see a business that doesn't focus on original ideas, but rather on monetizing the ideas of others. To use your example of Harvest Moon, Yasuhiro Wada brought a new concept to gaming.

One thing that I hate is getting a friend request and not having the slightest clue who the person is that sent it. What I like to see, and what I do for my own requests, is a brief summary of who I am, how we are acquainted (or what acquaintances we share), and some context to the request.

rousseau asks Is it possible to do accurate predictive modeling in-house, or does it require outside expertise? Data analytics has been a great way for us to gain insight into our customers behavior, but it doesn't really tell us what they will do in the future. We are discussing a predictive modeling project, and there is some debate whether we can do this in-house, or whether we need to contract out for the project.40 weeks 3 days ago

Probably because part of the EPEAT standard is intended to prevent products from being essentially disposable, so there are requirements for repairability of products, and all the recent tear-downs of new Apple products have been pretty consistent with the opinion that they are not easy to repair.

Windows 7 finally got some enterprise users to migrate to it from XP because it offered improved security and functionality. Key word = some. It remains to be seen how Windows 8 will be received.

I'm conflicted over an issue we are currently discussing at work; whether or not to prohibit use of Evernote. I personally really, really like Evernote, and use it daily to keep track of everything ranging from what I need to bring to an afternoon meeting to what groceries to pick up on the way home.

In a way it is like the transition from when every village had a blacksmith or two to the industrial age, when production of metal goods shifted to foundries. A lot of people (and I mean a lot, look in the phone book and see how many "Smiths" are there) had to leave their profession and do something else. Was this a good thing?

One think that I found interesting was the increased language support for Siri, specifically the addition of Korean and Cantonese since I travel to Asia occasionally.

I think he isn't being clear with his terminology. In order to overclock an Android device, you have to root it. It isn't really the overclocking that (potentially) benefits battery life, it is gaining root access and altering voltage based on clock speeds.

rousseau answers Re: What could cause persistent client disconnects while trying to run Hadoop Zookeeper through a cloud provider? You didn't mention your timeout config, but it should be set pretty high for your situation. There can be a lot of latency issues that potentially cause problems in a virtual environment. Try configuring timeout at something high like 10 seconds and see if you notice an improvement.49 weeks 1 day ago
