August 17, 2012, 1:10 PM — Earlier in the week I highlighted a news video on the Bill Gates Foundation and its "Reinvent the Toilet Fair" challenge - we now have a winner!
In this video, we see the entry from Caltech, which utilized a solar-powered toilet to achieve the goal of having a toilet without piped-in water, a sewer connection or outside electricity, and at a cost of less than 5 cents per day.
Other entries included a toilet that "turns human waste into biological charcoal," and one that turns waste into electricity.
I'm pretty sure that these winners will now get to run around the university shouting "We're Number One! And Number Two!" (or something similar). Sorry, couldn't resist.
