NASA posts another animation of asteroid that won't hit us

Again, totally unrelated to the meteor that hit Russia

By

Talk about some interesting timing - NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has given us another video animation discussing the DA14 asteroid, which will fly by the earth later this evening.

Ignoring the fact that a meteor has already hit the Earth in Russia, this video only lends the brilliant YouTube commenters to start speculating that the two space objects are related, that somehow a chunk from the asteroid broke off and landed in Russia. Ugh.

While I believe the two events are unrelated, I'm still a little concerned that we have all of this equipment set up to detect asteroids, yet we couldn't detect the meteor that hit Russia. Let's face it, folks, we're toast at some point.
