Verisign offers holiday present to online retailers

Well, you have to pay for it, but they promise to keep your site from crashing during the shopping rush.

It's still a little early for Christmas specials and discounts, but Verisign is getting out ahead of the season a bit by offering a bundle of three services designed to keep retailers online during their best season.

The eHoliday Uptime bundle is set up to let retailers run secondary DNS hosting through Verisign's cloud-based service and connect to the VeriSign Internet Defense Network, which is designed to stop DDOS attacks and iDefense Security Intelligence, which is designed to protect Web applications by filtering attacks on application vulnerabilities and blocking malware.

Not the kind of thing I remember finding in my stocking Christmas morning, but given the volume of business most retailers do online and during the holiday season, a little insurance -- whether from Verisign or someone else -- isn't a bad idea.
