August 25, 2008, 01:56 AM —

Abaca Technology Corporation, an innovator in email protection and messaging security, announced today that the Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 is now a validated VMware virtual appliance and available for download from www.vmware.com/appliances.

The Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 has been rigorously tested for compatibility with both the VMware ESX and ESXi hypervisors. Validation through the VMware Virtual Appliance Program is designed to ensure that products are reliable, supported, enterprise-ready, and fully compatible with VMware’s industry-leading virtualization solutions. VMware validation requires testing to verify that appliances work with VMware Infrastructure and have all of the necessary documentation to assist new users in either evaluating the virtual appliance or setting it up for production use.

“We worked closely with VMware to ensure that our virtual appliance meets VMware’s standards for virtual appliance quality and scalability,” said Leo Jolicoeur, CEO at Abaca. “By successfully completing the VMware validation process, we’ve ensured that the Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 fully supports the VMware virtualization platform while delivering best-in-class email security.”

The Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 provides the same 99 percent minimum guaranteed filtering accuracy as Abaca’s hardware-based network appliances. However, the VPG 1500 also offers a flexible deployment option for enterprise customers who want to save money by leveraging their existing hardware investments, streamline their complex IT environments, and standardize on their hardware platform of choice.

“The VMware Virtual Appliance Program helps software providers like Abaca to develop flexible, cost-effective solutions that are easy to deploy and can run on any x86-based hardware,” said William Shelton, Director of Emerging Products and Solutions at VMware. “Customers know products such as the Abaca Virtual Email Protection Gateway VPG 1500 that have passed VMware testing are optimized for the VMware platform. In the case of the VPG 1500, customers can expect consistent, highly reliable email protection even in demanding enterprise network requirements.”
