Is e-mail a perfect cloud application?

In the beginning there was email. And email was run on a UNIX server. The network was devoid of PCs. So all email was accessed via a terminal and a command line interface.

We like to talk about how much easier or cheaper it is to run applications off the cloud or use software as a service, and it is -- when our Internet connection is working. When we have network problems, though, it's another story entirely.

Cisco 'doubles down' on collaboration with 61 new products

Cisco Systems massively expanded its collaboration technologies portfolio on Monday with the announcement of 61 products, including a corporate-grade hosted e-mail system called Cisco WebEx Mail, a social networking application, and a video system to help groups share and search video content.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
