October 24, 2011, 2:41 PM — Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is known for his drive and intense focus.
But that focus no doubt was sorely tested in the past 24 hours as Zuckerberg was whip-sawed by good and bad news.
First the good: Recently deceased Apple CEO Steve Jobs reportedly told biographer Walter Isaacson that he admired the Facebook founder.
From the Los Angeles Times:
Jobs said he respected Zuckerberg for not selling out and for dominating social networking.
"You know we talk about social networks in the plural but I don't see anybody other than Facebook out there. It's just Facebook. They're dominating this," he told Isaacson. "I admire Mark Zuckerberg. I only know him a little bit, but I admire him for not selling out. For wanting to make a company. I admire that a lot."
Fortunately, the kind words of Jobs probably will help Zuck cope with this humiliating public setback. From Search Engine Land:
Facebook’s CEO is no longer the most popular person on Google+, having just now been passed by Google CEO Larry Page.
A bitter pill to swallow, no doubt. But rather than become enraged, Zuck should follow the example of Steve Jobs and bear no ill will toward Google.
And then go kill an animal to eat.
