January 30, 2012, 3:08 PM — Here's how you can use the free VLC application to covert a video file into another format.
1. Download VLC and install it to your computer.
2. Open VLC.
3. Click the Open File button.
4. Click the File tab.
5. Click the Add button to select your file.
6. Click the Convert/Save button.
7. From the menu choose the format and destination path for your file.
8. Click the Start button.
