February 14, 2012, 3:28 PM — Here's how you can get rid of the visual clutter at the top of the Microsoft Word interface.
1. Go to Preferences and then Ribbon.
2. Uncheck "Turn on the ribbon" and "Expand ribbon when document opens.
3. Go to View then Toolbars then Standard and uncheck Standard.
4. Go to View then Ruler and uncheck Ruler.
This will remove most of the egregious visual clutter that appears at the top of Microsoft Word. It makes it much easier to focus on writing your document instead of being overwhelmed by unnecessary junk.
