October 03, 2012, 3:04 PM — Companies that use the Business, Education and Government editions of Google Apps will now be able to get phone and email support for issues related to the Chrome browser.
Customers can now get technical help on issues such as browser installation, operation, security, policy settings and Apps interoperability on Windows, MacOS and Linux computers.
By extending support to Chrome, Google is trying to add another incentive for Apps customers to use the Google browser, as opposed to using competing products such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari.
According to Google, there are other advantages to using Chrome for Google Apps, a browser-based cloud email and collaboration suite for workplace use. "Google Apps also work great with Chrome, as features like offline document editing, desktop notifications and homescreen apps are currently only available in Chrome," wrote Fred Beckebanze, manager of Apps technical solutions engineers, in a blog post.
Google also announced earlier this week that it has given Apps administrators more granular control over Gmail Labs features that they may want to make available for their users. These are pre-release features that are still in an "experimental" phase.
Previously, Apps administrators could either turn on or turn off all Gmail Labs features for their end users. Now, administrators can control the end-user availability of individual Gmail Labs features.
