  • I think it’s fair to say that the Kindle Fire tablet was a disruptive product. It sold at a reasonable price point, had solid specs, and moved many units since its introduction. The Amazon Fire smartphone, with reasonably high-end specs and some unique features, came out a month or so ago, and is already selling for $0.99 on contract.

  • Why not just try out a number of free services to get an idea? is free and it only takes a minute, for example. Here is a link to a list with links of other websites that can help calculate value.

  • Both seem to offer the same services. Are Google for Work and Google Enterprise any different, or are both just different names for the same services?

  • My daughter is studying Japanese, and one thing I learned from when I was studying German years ago was that as much immersion as possible really helps with retention. My thought was that her iPhone can do double duty for language practice. How can I change Siri to Japanese for her?

  • Type chrome://settings/startup in the “omnibox” (another name for the address bar) and then click on “Open a specific page or set of pages.” Then in the “Set pages” link you can enter all of the sites that you want to have as your starting sites, and you can enjoy every morning to an automatic start-up of tabs for ITworld, Reddit, Salon, BBC, an

  • To put it in the most basic terms, it is connecting two networks to deliver content. To use the Netflix and Verizon example, Netflix sends out its content over its ISP’s network, and pays that network for the bandwidth.

  • Google made changes to the Chrome browser recently, and now I can only install extensions from the Chrome Web Store. I know that this is similar to the deal with Google Play for Android devices, but with Android I can just change settings to allow apps from "untrusted sources" to be installed.

  • It seems that public opposition to the creation of a two tiered internet, where wealthy businesses can pay ISPs to receive faster, priority treatment over other traffic, has been ignored by the FCC. I suppose I shouldn’t have expected anything different in light of the fact that the head of the FCC is a former lobbyist for Comcast.

  • Would it cause any problems using unmatched RAM in a laptop (assuming both RAM modules are compatible with the laptop)? I currently have 4GB (2 x 4GB) in a HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 8, and also have a single, compatible 4GB module. So I could have 1x4GB and 1x 2GB for a total of 6GB of RAM, but it would obviously not be a matched pair.

  • Whenever an Android app is installed, you get the butcher’s bill for all the services that you have to allow it to have access to in return for being able to use it. Many times it makes sense - if I am using a messaging app, it obviously needs to have SMS access.

  • I am unable to use “pin to start” in Chrome to pin a website to my start screen in Windows 8. This was something I was able to do until recently, and now the option isn’t available. Any ideas what could have happened and how to fix it?

  • I’m a big fan of a lot of more obscure Japanese games that never make it to the US. I’ve actually imported consoles before so that I could play Japanese only releases, but that is an expensive option. Is the PS4 region locked, or can it play games from all regions (US, Japan, Europe)?

  • I think a solid, logical URL structure is often overlooked. By clearly communicating the hierarchy of each page on a website, it makes it easier for search engines to properly determine the relevancy of a page to a specific search.

  • I’m not quite ready to spend $500-$600 for a new Sony Playstation 4 or Microsoft XBox One (cost of system+tax+one game). Maybe in a year or so. The Wii U doesn’t have a lot of games I really want that I can’t already get on my PS3, although there are a few Nintendo exclusives that I would like to play.

  • I was setting up a new LED TV for use with my tablet, laptop and PS3, and had planned to hook it up to a Bose Wave for better sound. However, the inputs on the Bose are RCA jacks and the audio output on the TV is a Optical Digital Audio Out. Is there a way to connect the two?

  • I guess the main things are the relative lack of scalability that makes it challenging when your network undergoes significant growth. Also, many times I’ve seen the same machine being used as a network server and an individual workstation, which pretty much sucks for the person whose computer is both their PC and the network server.

  • I’m afraid to use window cleaner on it, and just rubbing it with a clean cloth doesn’t do much beyond smearing around the fingerprints and other stuff that is already on there. I know there is screen cleaner (which I don’t have at the moment), but is that snake oil, or really a different product than glass/window cleaners.

  •  It’s easy to add words, but unless Microsoft has changed something recently, it is not possible to add “Rated R” words. Mother Microsoft just says, "Nope. You can’t add them." Microsoft does not like blue language and therefore you should not either.

  • It has been a long time since I have bought an electronic device that was made in the US of A, but Motorola has started manufacturing the Moto X in Texas. Well, perhaps manufacturing is too strong of a word, but they have started assembling them at least. Is it worth it for Motorola to do this?

  • If you are running Ubuntu, can you still mount an Android tablet using a USB cable so that you can access files the same way you can with a Windows PC? It's a first gen Nexus 7, if that makes a difference.
