HP unveils its flash-driven XP7 storage

Hewlett Packard has unveiled enterprise-class flash-driven storage that is cheaper than traditional storage workloads. According to a company statement, HP XP7 Storage features new flash-driven performance, delivering sub-millisecond response times and 3 million input-output operations per second (IOPS), which is more IOPS than three EMC Symmetrix VMAX 40K storage arrays combined.

With less than 31.5 seconds of downtime a year and new user authentication with access control functions, HP XP7 Storage is designed to securely handle unpredictable workloads and ensure business continuity.

New disaster recovery protection capabilities with multi-array virtualisation prevent business disruption by using the customer's local or remote strategy to protect data with 100 percent uptime. "By consolidating 4.5 petabytes of internal storage -- equivalent to multiple EMC Symmetrix 40K storage arrays -- onto a single array, HP XP7 Storage can also reduce data center floor space requirements by a total of 130 square feet, and storage-related costs by more than $100,000 per year," the company stated.

Spectrum Health director, enterprise infrastructure, Sean Henkel, said his firm needed a storage solution that enabled it to store mission-critical data securely, and allow for constant access to the information with no service disruption.

"The HP XP7 Storage array safeguards our patient and member information, runs efficiently at a lower power consumption rate, and saves us datacentre costs while providing greater performance," he said. HP senior vice president and general manager, HP Storage, David Scott, said today's mission critical workloads could not afford to forfeit performance or scalability for increased disaster recovery and data protection.

"With the introduction of HP XP7 Storage, we are supplying customers with a single system that is highly efficient, with features that can reduce the risk of data loss and provide nonstop data availability," he said.
