    On Thursday VMware released Fusion 4.1, an update to its $50 virtualization software ( Macworld rated 4 out of 5 mice ) that adds numerous small improvements--and a huge, unheralded change that could provide Mac users with much more flexibility when it comes to running old versions of Mac OS X.

    If you use Screen Sharing a lot in OS X 10.6, there are a couple ways to make it easier to connect to your Macs. First, there's ScreenSharingMenulet, which places an icon in your menu bar, showing machines you've previously connected to via Screen Sharing. If you'd rather keep your menu bar uncluttered, though, here's a built-in solution.

    If you use Stacks in Grid mode in OS X 10.6, and you've read this hint, then you know you navigate into (and out of) folders in Grid mode Stacks using the keyboard. If you use List mode Stacks, there's no need for these techniques, because folders are opened automatically when you mouse over them. (If you're using the keyboard, you'll need to press the Right Arrow to expand the currently-selected folder.)

    On Monday Apple released an update to its Snow Leopard operating system (10.6.2 ) that fixes flaws, including one that wipes out a users' personal data. But along with fixes, Apple's update also kills support for Intel Atom processors, in a bid to stop users from hacking their netbooks and creating "hackintosh" systems.
