Courts quash copyright trolls; recognize IP address is not a person

A little technical understanding works wonders in court; even a very little bit, like knowing the difference between an IP address and a person, or that WLANs, poaching, wardriving and bad geolocation make accusations based on IP more random than righteous

The Pirate Bay is teaming up with Swedish researchers who specialize in copyright-, file-sharing and enforcement on survey designed to provide more objective data than that supplied by RIAA and MPAA to help counter rabid anti-piracy plunder-and-pillage copyright enforcement rules.

Terabytes of legit data headed for deletion as feds keep MegaUpload from paying bills

The FBI raided MegaUpload's servers, copied data for evidence and now says it has no further right to access the data, essentially handing it back to MegaUpload. But MU's funds are frozen so it can't pay its hosting bills, even as it faces suits from users who lost legitimate data.

Why argue over SOPA, PIPA if they wouldn't do anything to stop content piracy anyway?

The SOPA and PIPA bills introduced in Congress are advertised as ways to stop illegal distribution of copyrighted content overseas, but all they do is make foreign sites harder for Americans to reach. Even their worst punishments won't stop a single foreign download.

Death of SOPA may be only big victory for individual rights online in 2012

SOPA's assumption of guilt provisions were outrageously unconstitutional, but didn't emerge from a vacuum. In 2012 it seems as if cops, marketers, social networkers, service providers or anyone else with a use for private data claims the right to take it, or just the ability.
