<title>Mennonite Mutual Aid uses storage virtualization to ensure cost-effective business continuity</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/storage/68106/mennonite-mutual-aid-uses-storage-virtualization-ensure-cost-effective-business-contin</link>
<description>Mennonite Mutual Aid successfully transitioned from a sprawling Windows and IBM server environment with direct-attached storage to a tiered, virtual infrastructure with a remote disaster recovery (DR) site. It accomplished this by working with its partner, MapleTronics Computers, to implement FalconStor Software&#039;s and Network Storage Server (NSS) and Virtual Tape Library (VTL) plus VMware.

 <title>Virtualizing storage</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/virtualization/68067/virtualizing-storage</link>
<description>Storage virtualization is really nothing more than taking multiple storage devices, and abstracting them so that the end user can more easily manage a larger amount of storage without having to deal with the complexities of multiple devices. Storage from multiple devices are combined and appear as a single resource.

<title>Three deals symbolized storage trends in 2008</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/storage/59571/three-deals-symbolized-storage-trends-2008</link>
<description>The storage story of 2008 was growth: An accelerating explosion of information, much of it in the form of video, led IT administrators to try to make better use of their capacity and staff.

<title>Take Your Customers to the Next Level with Virtualization</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/channel/57852/taking-your-customers-next-level-virtualization</link>
<description>Virtualization is transforming the data center and solution providers are migrating their customers to a virtual environment to create a more flexible IT infrastructure, reduce costs and maximize storage resources. At the same time, however, virtualization introduces some new concerns.

 <title>Three degrees of storage virtualization</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/storage/55732/three-degrees-storage-virtualization</link>
<description>Over the years, virtualization has been employed in almost every facet of storage technology: disk, controller, array, SAN, LAN and even host (think logical volume manager). At the risk of oversimplification, I&#039;d suggest that there are three broad categories: inside the box, outside the box and tape emulation. Each of these offers distinct benefits as well as some commonalities.

<title>A closer look at storage virtualization</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/storage/55730/closer-look-storage-virtualization</link>
<description>Managing disk storage was once simple: If we needed more space, we got a bigger disk drive. But data storage needs grew, so we started adding multiple disk drives. Finding and managing these became harder and took more time, so we developed RAID, network-attached storage and storage-area networks. Still, managing and maintaining thousands of disk drives became an ever more onerous task. The latest answer to this dilemma is storage virtualization.
