Yet another court date and yet another loss in court may finally send "Spam King" to jail, but won't improve the scam-infected, spam-covered Internet he helped create.

My Skype line rang the other day. The caller was listed simply as “Online Help.” Curious, I picked up the line.

Most people assume victims of spear-phishing attacks and Nigerian currency scams come from low end of the IQ spectrum. They don't; unfortunately, neither do the spear-phishers.

I feel like a complete idiot. I just got taken by a LinkedIn spam that may have just stolen my banking password. This is not the first time I've been an idiot or clicked on something I shouldn't. But this one could be really bad for me.

Don't look now, but that "LinkedIn" invite you just received from a "colleague" may in fact be yet another cleverly disguised piece of spam. Over the past 24 hours I've received more than 20 variations this piece of e-junk, almost all of which slipped past my spam filter. Most of them include the line:

Perhaps you were one of the lucky millions that got a 419, phish, or lotto fraud email today. Maybe you were altruistic and sent it to the ISP where the email targets responses. Maybe that was foolish. Only a couple of ISPs actually do anything about it that I can find. Worse, more just ignore it. There's no onus on them to remove spammers or fraudulent sites, except their integrity.

If you aren't getting important emails from the government of Middlesex County, Ontario, your spam filter may be to blame.

You can keep your PC a lot safer just by keeping in mind that any message you find in your e-mail box that sounds too good to be true, probably is too good to be true.
