    Apps are all about choice. And nowhere is choice more appealing than in the world of Web browsing. In the early days of smartphones, users had no choice but to use the browser that came installed with the operating system, but now we have multiple choices: This week saw the release of Mozilla's Firefox 4 for Mobile, and Opera's Mini 6 and Mobile 11. Both browsers look to expand on the bundled mobile browsers' functionality by adding easy-to-use features and social network sharing.

    A lot has changed in the browser universe since Firefox 3.0 launched in June 2008. Google Chrome burst onto the scene, and has undergone frequent updates since then. Microsoft released IE 8 and IE 9. Safari advanced from version 3 then to version 5 now.

    Review: Google Chrome 8

    In the months since we reviewed version 5 of Google’s Chrome Web browser ( Macworld rated 4 out of 5 mice ), the developers in Mountain View have not been slacking off. The latest stable release of this contender for the Mac browser crown now stands at version 8 and counting. While it doesn’t pack many major improvements, the new features it does sport are welcome and well implemented. More importantly, its increased speed and standards compliance help Chrome 8 largely leave the latest version of Safari eating its dust.
