    On October 26th, 2009, my BlackBerry Storm received it's awaited upgrade to the new v5.0 operating system. I was surprised to see how much faster the screen and application response time is. If you haven't yet upgraded your Storm to OS 5.0, then do so with all speed.

    The new BlackBerry 9530, sold in the United States as the Verizon Storm, has the familiar fingertip navigation and flick-to-scroll gesture common to most widescreen phones. Apart from that, the Verizon Storm is very much its own device, unmistakably a BlackBerry, but carried to a new level of usability by a touchscreen display and a redesigned GUI.

    BlackBerry fans who've been yearning for a touch-based handset à la iPhone now have one, but the BlackBerry Storm -- which Verizon Wireless plans to start selling Friday for $250 with a two-year contract -- might not be the smart phone of their dreams.
