    Slow Navigation Hampers Sony Reader

    "A great read is a few seconds away," proclaims the Sony Reader Daily Edition screen as it tries to connect to the Sony store--or to do anything else involving the unit's wireless Internet access. Unfortunately, in my tests, I had to wait a lot longer than a few seconds.

    Cybook Opus Wins Featherweight E-Reader Crown

    If you've been waiting for a no-frills e-book reader that's scarcely heavier than an iPhone, check out the Cybook Opus from Bookeen. Available in an array of colors, and weighing just 5.3 ounces and measuring less than half an inch thick, the Opus wrests the e-reader portability crown from the Sony Reader Pocket Edition; unfortunately, its $199 price tag (as of February 18, 2010) is a bit larger.

    eReader battles will be all about their software

    Software is where the eReader battles will be fought and run. And while it is encouraging that Barnes and Noble and Sony have entered the race against Amazon's Kindle, both still have some room to grow if they are going to be effective competitors.
