What does Android need to change to be more attractive to enterprise customers?

    Posted March 27, 2014 - 4:58 pm

BlackBerry was the darling of government and enterprise users for years, but I think it’s safe to say those days are gone. What changes does Google need to make to Android to help it fill the void left by BlackBerry?

How to block someone on Twitter without them knowing?

    Posted March 13, 2014 - 7:12 pm

Best Dropbox-compatible office suite for iOS

    Posted March 5, 2014 - 11:37 am

What's the best app for editing Word and Excel files on your iPhone or iPad? I need Dropbox compatibility, so iWork is out. Used to love QuickOffice Pro but Google gutted it. Been using DocumentsToGo but it's ugly and clunky. Any advice appreciated!
  • Question

Will incorporation of iOS, Android, Windows, and now BlackBerry lock people to individual car brands?

    Posted March 3, 2014 - 10:17 pm

Apple has announced iPhone integration with Mercedes, Volvo and Ferrari, while Google has Android partnerships with Audi, Honda, GM and Hyundai. Microsoft had been teamed up with Ford, but that wasn’t working out so well for Ford so they are switching to a BlackBerry system (there is an ITworld article about this).
  • Question

What were the best new things introduced at this year’s CES?

  • Question

Is wearable tech a fad or the next big thing?

    Posted January 7, 2014 - 12:24 am

So far CES seems to be a lot of awesome TVs and tech that you wear this year. As someone who grew up with a 13” black and white TV, I can see the appeal of bigger and better screens in the living room. Wearable tech I am not so sure about.
  • Question

  • Question

What are some good Black Friday tech buys to watch for?

    Posted November 25, 2013 - 5:58 pm

As a small business owner, I view Black Friday a little differently than many people. For me, instead of a Christmas buying opportunity, it is a chance to buy some office equipment for the next year. Any suggestions for sale items on this Black Friday that I can justify as at least somewhat work related?

  • Question

If your company supports BYOD, does it require employees to supply their own devices and data plan?

    Posted August 27, 2013 - 4:22 pm

My company supports BYOD, and while you have to pay for your own device, the company pays for the data/call charges. I was talking to someone about BYOD from another company, and according to him, I was fortunate, since most companies don’t pay for anything. Is that right? Does anyone know what is the most common practice?
  • Question

Does Google Glass have a future as a BYOD device?

    Posted June 21, 2013 - 3:19 pm

Will enterprise embrace Google Glass when it sees a general release? It’s the kind of thing that I could see a few people I know wanting their companies to support, but I can’t think of many (if any) needs it fills for businesses. Is there even any effort to penetrate the business market with Glass?

It certainly appears that BYOD is here to stay. Has anyone figured out the impact from a financial perspective? Does it actually cost a business money to embrace BYOD, or does it save money?
  • Question

    What are good inexpensive earbuds?

    Posted February 7, 2013 - 5:07 pm

I go through earbuds like they are free. I'm in the field quite often, and I also use them (1) at home, (2) in the office, (3) while traveling, (4) at satellite offices, and (5) everyday, everywhere. Unfortunately, I tend to lose them.
  • Question

Which makes more sense for business users, the 128GB iPad or Surface Pro?

    Posted January 31, 2013 - 1:00 pm

My first thought at seeing the new $799 128GB iPad was, that it was a catch up model to keep its specs competitive with the $999 Surface Pro 128GB. Now, I'm not so sure that the Surface needs to catch up to the 128GB iPad after learning that Windows 8 takes up 45GB of the Surface Pro's storage.
  • Question

Will people use voice commands in browsers?

    Posted January 14, 2013 - 5:10 pm

Just as the voices have faded away of people around my office asking their iPhone 4S and 5 inane things like, "What time is it," and "What is the weather like," and (I kid you not), "Remind me to take a nap at 7," I see that Google is going to integrate speech recognition into Chrome.
  • Question

Will companies continue to support BlackBerry?

    Posted January 11, 2013 - 12:59 pm

BB 10 is almost here - finally. I haven't got my hands on one yet personally, but from what I've seen they actually look like pretty devices. It looks like all the major carriers in the US are going to support BB 10, so they are still in the game. The question I have is whether business will continue to support BB.
  • Question

Has Microsoft finally created a tablet for enterprise?

    Posted January 10, 2013 - 2:08 pm

The Surface Pro finally brings a full-fledge OS to the tablet universe, running Windows 8 instead of some dumbed down, hobbled OS that is consumer oriented and/or limited in flexibility (cough, cough, Windows RT). That isn't to say that tablets like the iPad of Nexus 7/10 don't have their uses, but they have inherent limitations.
  • Question

What's the best new thing you've seen at CES?

    Posted January 8, 2013 - 1:25 pm

I think of CES as being my shopping list for next Christmas. I saw a sweet WiFi enabled clothes dryer, honey! Kidding....kind of. Actually, I saw some interesting new software from Synology for their NAS devices (DSM 4.2 beta) that emphasize cloud based management and includes Synology High Availability on their NAS devices.
