  • VMware releases Fusion 6 to support OS X Mavericks, Windows 8.1

    For years now, we've been watching an ongoing tit-for-tat battle between VMware and Parallels. Both companies make virtualization apps--VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop--which let you run Windows (and other operating systems) on your Mac. Every year or so, the two companies release new versions of their apps, each trying to one-up the other. VMware has just fired its salvo for 2013, releasing version 6 of its Fusion and Fusion Professional virtualization apps.

    I've just fired up VMware Fusion 5 Professional Edition on my iMac under OS X Mountain Lion and I'm really impressed.

    On Thursday VMware released Fusion 4.1, an update to its $50 virtualization software ( Macworld rated 4 out of 5 mice ) that adds numerous small improvements--and a huge, unheralded change that could provide Mac users with much more flexibility when it comes to running old versions of Mac OS X.
