<title>States scramble to track federal stimulus bucks</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/government/83224/states-scramble-track-federal-stimulus-bucks</link>
<description>Just as the $787 billion economic stimulus is unprecedented, so are the reporting demands it&#039;s making on state CIOs and IT organizations, which are scrambling to whip up new processes and tools to accurately track and account for their states&#039; shares of the stimulus pie.

<title>Maryland is tops at tracking stimulus spending</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/government/83225/maryland-tops-tracking-stimulus-spending</link>
<description>Maryland Gov. Martin O&#039;Malley doesn&#039;t have to guess where federal stimulus funds will do the most good in his state: He can see for himself -- and his constituents can, too.

<title>Is the federal stimulus creating tech jobs? The government isn&#039;t saying</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/government/82108/is-federal-stimulus-creating-tech-jobs-the-government-isnt-saying</link>
<description>One obvious follow-up question to the U.S. government&#039;s announcement this month that the federal stimulus has created or saved 30,000 jobs so far is this: How many were IT and engineering jobs? Unfortunately, there isn&#039;t an answer.

<title>Broadband subsidy: too much money, but mostly well targeted</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/networking/70270/broadband-subsidy-too-much-money-mostly-well-targeted</link>
<description>A few weeks ago I aired my worries about how the broadband funding in the Federal stimulus package was going to be spent. The government has now released documentation on that part of the package, and so far things look mostly OK.

 <link>http://www.itworld.com/government/68966/white-house-plan-create-600k-jobs-100-days-wont-help-tech</link>
<description>The real impact of the nearly $800 billion stimulus package on shrinking IT employment remains in the future, despite President Obama&#039;s plan to expedite hiring of some 600,000 people over the next 100 days.

<title>Vendors look for piece of stimulus cash with new BI apps</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/business-intelligence/68863/vendors-look-piece-stimulus-cash-new-bi-apps</link>
<description>The Obama administration&#039;s demand that government officials closely track and report how $787 billion in economic stimulus money is being spent was not lost on major software vendors such as SAP and IBM, which have quickly rolled out BI tools that are supposed to help meet the mandate.

<title>With six-core chips, AMD preps for stimulus money fight</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/hardware/66872/six-core-chips-amd-preps-stimulus-money-fight</link>
<description>The U.S. government is beginning to spend billions of dollars quickly to stimulate the economy. And that may be why AMD said this week it is releasing its six core Opteron chip in June, well ahead of schedule, and plans to follow it early next year with a chip code-named Magny-Cours that will ship in eight- and 12-core models. After that, it plans a 16-core chip in 2011.

<title>Enviromental control systems lack strong security</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/security/65388/enviromental-control-systems-lack-strong-security</link>
<description>If lengthy requirements were a measure of success, then smart grid technology is well on its way to being an anomaly in the environmental controls space. But I&#039;m not going to try to hold my breath for that to happen.
