    How to parse URLs, hash tags, and more from a tweet

    Tweets come with all kinds of actionable elements inside them these days. Shortened URL’s, #hashtags, @replies, and the actual message body. When you’re consuming a list of tweets, it’s important to be able to parse out these elements from the plain text so that they can be made into hyperlinks and directed at the proper location.

    It’s been several months now since Twitter switched over to version 1.1 of the Twitter API. Headaches were expected, and headaches are being had. A primary cause of these headaches is the move to enforce OAuth for every API request, but a second culprit - rate limiting - is responsible for drastic restructuring of existing code.
