Internet Explorer 9 speeds past competition

    Posted March 16, 2011 - 4:09 pm

Throw away what you think you know about Internet Explorer -- because the just-released IE9 will turn it all on its ear. Think IE is sluggish? Think again, because according to SunSpider tests, it rivals or beats the speed demons Chrome and Opera. Believe that IE sports a tired-looking interface? No longer --- it now has the same type of stripped-down look that Chrome originated, and that the latest version of Firefox uses as well.

IE 9 Platform Preview has speed, not much else

    Posted March 18, 2010 - 8:55 pm

The Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview exhibits to good effect two of what Microsoft says will be the new browser's selling points: speed and HTML 5 support. If the final version is as fast as or faster than the preview, IE will no longer be a laggard in the browser race and will most likely beat out Firefox. HTML 5 support is a nice extra, but it's still too early to tell how important that will be.

    How secure is Internet Explorer?

    Posted January 29, 2009 - 11:29 am

Although Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) Web browser has lost market share to worthy competitors over the last few years, it is still the market leader and remains the browser to beat. IE has many significant security features and enterprise options that cannot be easily discounted. Unfortunately for its many users, IE's dominance and complexity have made it the browser to attack. IE is also the only browser natively vulnerable to ActiveX control exploits.

Just when you thought the "browser wars" were over, with the two camps -- Microsoft and -- settling in for a kind of intransigent détente, along comes Google to stir things up all over again. Clearly Google is unhappy with the current state of browser geopolitics and feels it needs to roll its own in order to ensure a robust base for its myriad hosted applications (e.g. Gmail, Google Docs, etc.)
