 <link>http://www.itworld.com/%5Bprimary-term%5D/79139/will-3d-tv-be-blu-rays-savior</link>
<description>Panasonic&#039;s unveiling of a 50-inch plasma TV that displays 3D images got me thinking: Is 3D the killer app that will make Blu-ray players popular in the home?

<description>Connected TVs, set-top boxes, and Blu-ray Disc players aren&#039;t new, but they continue to make new connections with Web sites and services, from YouTube and Netflix to Amazon and Internet radio sites.

 <link>http://www.itworld.com/security/69077/group-advocates-standard-hdtv-based-video-surveillance</link>
<description>A recently formed group has proposed a standard for high-definition video surveillance systems that allows HDTV signals to be transmitted digitally over conventional closed-circuit TV media without packetization.

 <title>Brand-Name LCD HDTVs Get Cheaper</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/68960/brand-name-lcd-hdtvs-get-cheaper</link>
<description>Anyone familiar with LCD HDTVs expects their prices to decrease, and for TVs from established companies to cost more than models from upstarts like Insignia and Vizio--but no one expects the top-shelf brands to come down in price faster than the value brands. Yet that is exactly what&#039;s happening.

 <title>Insignia NS-LCD52HD-09 52-Inch HDTV</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/66683/insignia-ns-lcd52hd-09-52-inch-hdtv</link>
<description>The Insignia NS-LCD52HD-09 costs only about $1400 (as of March 10, 2009), a very good price for a 52-inch HDTV. And though its image quality isn&#039;t great, it&#039;s not horrible, either. The NS-LCD52HD-09 has only middling sound quality, too, but again it&#039;s about what you would expect for the comparatively low price.

 <title>Panasonic TH-50PZ850U 50-Inch HDTV</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/66682/panasonic-th-50pz850u-50-inch-hdtv</link>
<description>The Panasonic TH-50PZ850U is a pretty good value, especially in view of its generous array of extra features. Not only can it display your pictures and run your videos off its SD card slot, but you can plug it into an ethernet connection and enjoy Internet video. This set also does an adequate, though not extraordinary, job displaying movies and TV shows. And at US$1700 street (as of April 16, 2009), this plasma HDTV is reasonably inexpensive for a 50-inch set.

 <title>Samsung LN55A950 55-Inch HDTV</title>
 <link>http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/66681/samsung-ln55a950-55-inch-hdtv</link>
<description>The Samsung LN55A950 is the first LCD TV we&#039;ve tested with LED backlighting. But LED backlighting doesn&#039;t come cheap. The LN55A950&#039;s $4500 street price (as of April 16, 2009) puts it in a different league from the other TVs that PC World normally reviews, but the image quality--though good--does not.

 <link>http://www.itworld.com/personal-tech/66680/vizio-vf550xvt-55-inch-hdtv</link>
<description>The Vizio VF550XVT 55-inch HDTV isn&#039;t much of a bargain, despite the reasonable $1800 price tag (as of April 16, 2009). Assorted problems with image quality, weak sound, and clumsy menus, along with a lack of interesting features, make this set difficult to recommend.
