January 19, 2013, 7:01 AM — AT&T's Technology Archives have posted another cool video from our telephone past: In "Goodbye, Central", we learn about towns in 1978 that still were not connected to either dial-tone or touch-tone service.
For these towns (Catalina Island, Virginia City, Nev. and St. Ignace, Mich.), it was interesting to see how operators in the mid-70s were still routing phone calls, when much of the country was dialing on their own:
