Citrix has launched a free version of its GoToMeeting conferencing service.

The virtualisation, networking and Cloud infrastructure company launched the original GoToMeeting service in 2004. Since then there have been numerous additions and extensions to the platform including GoToWebinar and GoToTraining. This is the first free service in the GoTo portfolio.

The service is a Chrome based tool that allows for video conferencing for up to three people. The platform is entirely browser based that allows users to connect without downloading additional software.

GoToMeeting product line director, Phil Chambers, described the service as another example of how the company is responding to its customer's needs.

"Offering a free, lightweight version of GoToMeeting meets the needs of everyday consumers while also giving business users confidence in a secure platform backed by Citrix."

GoToMeeting Free is available now through the Chrome Web Store.
